BMW ABS/DSC/DXC Front Strut / Wheel Speed - Used Cable with magnetic pick-up on front strut assembly. Tells ABS brain weather or not wheel is spinning by reading slots on the hub. |
|   |
BMW ABS/DSC/DXC Rear Control Arm / Wheel Speed - Used Cable with magnetic pick-up on rear control arm. Tells ABS brain weather or not wheel is spinning by reading slots on the hub. |
|   |
BMW AUC - Used This sensor controls the fresh air intake system. |
|   |
BMW Air Bag Impact - Used Orange block located on the front wheel house. Senses front impact and sends signal to air bag brain to deploy air bag(s). Not all cars use these a seperate sensor. In 93 the sensor was incorperated into the air bag brain.
With the advent of side air bags there are now sensors below the front seats that detect side impacts. |
|   |
BMW Air Bag Seat Pressure - Used Located in the bottom of the passengers front seat, this sheet of plastic can detect if a person is in the seat. The passengers side air bag will only deploy if some one is sitting in the passengers seat at the time of impact. |
|   |
BMW Altitude - Used Located on the outside of the air box, this sensor registers altitude and allows the fuel injection system to make the proper adjustments. |
|   |
BMW Ambient Temperature - Used The ambient temp sensor works in conjunction with the OBC to give a outside temperature reading. It is located on the front spoiler or inside the front brake air duct. |
|   |
BMW Auto Level - Used Attached to the front or rear sway bar, the auto level sensor detects height changes to the front or rear of the car because of weight. In the front in adjusts the headlights internally to keep them properly aimed. In the rear, it actuates the load level switch to raise or lower the rear of the car, there by keeping the car level. |
|   |
BMW Barometric Pressure - Used Located on air cleaner, senses changes in altitude and barometric pressure. |
|   |
BMW Cam Position - Used The cam postion sensor tells the injection brain which cylinder is firing. |
|   |
BMW Coolant Level - Used Most sensors are located in the coolant expansion tank, But there are some that are in the radiator. The coolant level sensor tells the System Check Panel when the coolant level is low. |
|   |
BMW Coolant Tempature - Used Sensor that reads temperature of coolant as it passes through the cylinder head. |
|   |
BMW Crank Position - Used The crank position sensor tells the injection brain when the engine is a Top Dead Center and how fast its spinning (RPM).
This sensor can be located in the transmission bell housing - reads marks on the flywheel. Or it can be in the rear of the block below the starter and it reads a toothed wheel attached to the crankshaft. |
|   |
BMW Crank Position Bracket - Used This is the bracket that holds the sensor in position over the crank pulley. |
|   |
BMW Cruise Control - Used not available |
|   |
BMW Cylinder Head Temp Sensor - Used Reads the temperature of the cylinder head. It is usually located in the thermostat housing, the coolant sensor housing or the intake manifold depending in the model. Can also be mounted directly in the cylinder head. |
|   |
BMW EDC Strut Sensor - Used This is the sensor on the front strut for the EDC (electronic dampening control) system. |
|   |
BMW Evaporator Temp Sensor - Used Locarted in the climate case. This sensor reads the temperature of the air coming off of the evaporator. |
|   |
BMW Headlamp Washer Fluid Reservoir - Used This is the level sensor located inside of the headlamp washer fluid reservoir. It reads the amount of fluid inside of the reservoir. |
|   |
BMW Intake Air Temp - Used Located on the intake manifold, this sensor measures the temperature of the passing air. Can also be located inside the air cleaner box. |
|   |
BMW Knock Sensor - Used Mounts to the side of the block. Usually there are 2 sensor. Knock sensors plug into the injection harnes and are used by the injection brain to control fuel/air mixtures. |
|   |
BMW Mass Air Flow - Used The mass air flow sensor measures the volume of air passing through it to the intake manifold. This information is used by the D.M.E. to control fuel injection. |
|   |
BMW Oil Pan Level - Used Located in the engine oil pan. This is the sensor that tells the check panel the oil level in the engine oil pan. |
|   |
BMW Oxygen - Used Located in the exhaust system. The sensor reads the amount of gases in the head pipe going to the catalytic converter. Works inconjuction with the D.M.E. to control emissions. |
|   |
BMW Parking Distance Control (PDC) - Used Located in the front and rear bumpers. PDC sensors register how close objects are to the front and rear of the car. |
|   |
BMW Ping Sensor - Used Found on the cylinder head. Ping sensors plug into the injection harnes and are used by the injection brain to control fuel/air mixtures. |
|   |
BMW Rain - Used Attached to the front windshield. This sensor reads how hard it is raining and controls the speed of the wipers. |
|   |
BMW Speed - Used Located in the rear differential cover. Sends a signal to the speedometer to tell how fast the car is going.
Also the speed sensor for the DSC |
|   |
BMW Steering - Used Found on the steering column. Reads the rotation of the steering wheel. Used on cars with Dynamic Stability Control to control over/under steer. |
|   |
BMW Throttle Position - Used Located on the throttle body, black box that tells the injection brain what position the buterfly valve inside the throttle body is in. |
|   |
BMW Washer Bottle Level - Used Located inside the windsheild washer reservoir. Detects fluid level. |
|   |
BMW Wiper - Used Mounts to windshield |
